The Golden Fleece WIDE Drum Carder gives spinners, felters, and fiber artists a broader working surface for carding fleece, building blends, and preparing larger batts. Its 12 × 24 inch carding width gives you substantially more batt area than the standard Golden Fleece carder while maintaining a straightforward hand-operated design.

Choose 54, 72, or 120 TPI according to the fibers you work with most. Each Revolution Fibers configuration uses the same selected TPI on both the licker-in and main drum, so choosing your carder is simply a matter of matching the carding-cloth density to your fiber.

Every WIDE Drum Carder sold by Revolution Fibers also includes the matching 12-inch Packer Brush and its installation components.

Which TPI should you choose?

54 TPI - Coarse

Choose 54 TPI when you primarily prepare coarse wool and heavier, more robust fibers. Golden Fleece specifically positions this density for coarse wool, including fibers such as Romney and Lincoln.

72 TPI - Standard

The broadest general-purpose option for many common wool types and blends. Golden Fleece recommends 72 TPI for medium-to-fine wool such as Merino and Corriedale, making it a strong choice when your fiber prep covers a range of typical spinning fleeces and blends.

120 TPI - Fine

Choose 120 TPI when you primarily work with fine wool and delicate fibers such as alpaca, angora, cashmere, and cotton. The denser carding cloth is designed for finer fiber preparation.

All Revolution Fibers configurations use matching TPI on the licker-in and main drum.

Why choose the WIDE carder?

The primary difference between the standard and WIDE Golden Fleece carders is the usable batt width.

The standard model produces an approximately 7.5 × 24 inch batt. The WIDE produces an approximately 12 × 24 inch batt.

That additional width makes the WIDE particularly useful for makers who regularly process larger amounts of fiber, want broader batts for spinning or felting, or simply prefer more working area during blending and fiber preparation.

If you prefer a smaller footprint and a 7.5-inch working width, compare the Golden Fleece Standard Drum Carder with Packer Brush.

The WIDE frame measures approximately 14 × 24 inches / 35 × 60 cm before accounting for the handle and other projecting components.

Packer Brush included

Every Golden Fleece WIDE Drum Carder sold by Revolution Fibers includes the correctly sized 300 mm / 12-inch Packer Brush.

The brush sits over the main drum and applies light pressure to the fiber as the drum turns. This helps seat fiber farther into the carding cloth so you can build denser, more evenly packed batts and maintain more consistent fiber distribution.

The Packer Brush package includes:

  • 300 mm / 12 in Packer Brush
  • Two mounting brackets
  • Two installation wrenches
  • Two O-rings
  • Installation guide

There is no separate “without Packer Brush” configuration on this Revolution Fibers listing.

Built for repeat fiber preparation

The WIDE Drum Carder uses a birch-plywood frame with highly tempered steel carding cloth, inserted bearings, and an industrial poly drive belt.

Its manual hand-crank operation gives the maker direct control over feeding and carding speed without requiring electricity. Table clamps secure the carder to the work surface, while the included doffer pin helps lift the finished batt from the main drum.

The wider carding surface gives you more room for working with fleece, color blends, fiber combinations, and larger batts while keeping the process familiar and hands-on.

Setup and what to know before buying

The carder requires attachment of the operating handle. The included Packer Brush is installed using the supplied brackets, hardware, wrenches, O-rings, and installation guide.

Choose your TPI according to the fibers you expect to prepare most often. A higher TPI is not automatically a better choice. Each density is intended for a different range of fibers.

This Revolution Fibers listing uses matching TPI on both drums. Mixed licker-in and main-drum combinations are not offered as variants on this product.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the standard and WIDE Golden Fleece Drum Carders?

The main difference is batt width. The standard model produces a batt approximately 7.5 × 24 inches, while the WIDE produces a batt approximately 12 × 24 inches. The WIDE is a better fit when you want a broader working area or routinely prepare larger batts. You can compare it directly with the Golden Fleece Standard Drum Carder.

Which TPI is the most versatile?

For many makers working with common wool types and blends, 72 TPI is the broadest general-purpose choice.

What is 54 TPI best for?

The 54 TPI carder is intended for coarser wool and robust fibers, including fleece such as Romney and Lincoln.

What is 120 TPI best for?

The 120 TPI configuration is intended for fine wool and delicate fibers such as alpaca, angora, cashmere, and cotton.

Is the Packer Brush included?

Yes. Every WIDE Drum Carder sold through Revolution Fibers includes the 300 mm / 12-inch Packer Brush and its installation components.

What does the Packer Brush do?

It presses fiber farther into the main drum's carding cloth as the carder operates. This helps create denser, more evenly packed batts and supports more consistent blending.

How large a batt can the WIDE carder make?

Approximately 12 inches wide by 24 inches long, or 30 × 60 cm.

Is the WIDE drum carder electric?

No. It is manually operated with a hand crank.

Does it arrive fully assembled?

The main carder is largely assembled, but the operating handle must be attached. The included Packer Brush also requires installation using its supplied hardware and instructions.

What accessories are included?

The carder includes table clamps, a doffer pin, cleaning brush, Allen keys, and the complete 12-inch Packer Brush package.
