What goes into a blended top
These are pre-blended fibers rather than single-breed top, for spinners who want the blending decision already made.
The flagship is Constellation Range: a 70% Merino / 30% Tussah silk combed top at a fine 20–23 micron, averaging 21, with a 3–4 inch staple that drafts as easily as straight Merino while the silk adds sheen and a little extra strength. In wet felting the silk tends to migrate to the surface, giving finished pieces a light-catching texture pure wool doesn't produce.
The color is dyed tonal rather than striped, so it spins into yarn with depth and movement rather than hard color blocks. Because the Merino base carries the blend, drafting is the same as spinning straight Merino — worsted-style from the fold for crisp stitch definition, or an open draw for a lighter single. Needle felters get detailed, controllable work from the Merino content with visual texture from the silk; wet felters get a faster-than-expected full from the wool side while the silk stays visible on the surface.
