Find Your Match

Choose the right carder for your fiber:

  • Normal Carders — 64 dpi, 6¾” x 10” (leather size 6½″ x 4¾″) Wire gauge #20. Ideal for medium/coarse wool and first-pass carding. Sold as a pair.
  • Fine Carders — 105 dpi,  8½” x 10” (leather size 8½″ x 4¾″) Wire gauge #26. Great for fine wool, cotton, and cashmere. Sold as a pair.

What Makes Them Essential

  • Prepare Your Fiber Your Way — Remove debris, align staples, and blend colors and breeds.
  • Make Rolags or Batts — Flexible prep methods for woolen or worsted spinning.
  • Gentle but Effective — Specialized carding cloth protects delicate fibers unlike pet brushes.

Understand Tine Density

  • Low TPI (64 dpi): Best for coarser, longer-staple fibers around 28–40 microns, such as Romney, Lincoln, or coarse blends. Great for opening locks, removing debris, and prepping fiber with high crimp or VM.

  • High TPI (105–110): Ideal for finer fibers between 17–26 microns, like Merino, Targhee, Polwarth, Alpaca, and Cotton. These densities help produce smooth, airy rolags or finely blended batts with minimal nepping.

Simple Maintenance

  • Clean off fiber after use.
  • Use a flick carder or stiff brush to remove any buildup.
  • Store dry to preserve wood and leather.
