Independent tension. Cleaner cloth. Bigger ideas.

Add a true second warp beam with its own brake to your Wolf loom and keep complex warps under control. The Schacht Wolf Double Back Beam gives you independent tension for each warp so supplementary patterns, layered cloth, and mixed fibers weave cleanly without constant re-tying.

Why add a second back beam

  • Independent brake and tension for the second warp so take-up differences do not ripple through your cloth.
  • Smoother weaving rhythm with fewer tension fixes between picks.
  • Cleaner selvedges and fell line when pattern or pile warps advance differently than ground warps.

Where it shines

  • Supplementary warp and turned drafts that interlace less often than the ground.
  • Doubleweave and layered cloth where one layer weaves longer, pleats, or collapses.
  • Mixed yarns and fibers that stretch or take up differently and need their own tension.
  • Texture work including Bedford cord, pique, seersucker, and warp pile.

What is included

  • Second warp beam with brake drum and cable.
  • Rear back beam and left or right uprights designed for Wolf looms.
  • Brake handle with lockable release for easy beaming and advancing.
  • Apron bars and cords sized for your model and wood.
  • Metal fold bars to preserve the Wolf folding feature.
  • Lease sticks, crank handle, and all required hardware.
  • Loom sold seperately

Compatibility and fit

  • Models: Wolf Pup, Baby Wolf 26 in, Mighty Wolf 36 in. Choose the kit for your model.
  • Older looms: very early Wolf serial numbers may require drilling simple pilot holes for the uprights and brake hardware.
  • Studio space: plan for added depth once installed. Allow extra room behind the loom for the second beam.
  • Folding: installs to keep the Wolf fold-up convenience for storage and transport.
  • Ordering note: include your loom serial number at checkout so we send the correct parts and instructions.

How to warp with two beams

  • Wind separately: beam ground warp on the main beam and pattern or second layer on the double back beam.
  • Manage crosses: use two sets of lease sticks so each warp stays organized.
  • Front to back: sley and thread, tie on the ground warp first, bring it to even tension, then tie on and tension the second warp.
  • Back to front: tie each warp to its beam and wind on in order. Keep warps separated to avoid twist between layers.
  • Brake control: lock the second beam handle in release while beaming. Set each tension independently before weaving and adjust in small increments as you advance.

Key benefits you will feel

  • Balanced layers and motifs that hold shape across the width.
  • Even picks per inch with fewer stops to correct slack ends.
  • More reliable sampling when you mix fibers or add pattern warps.
