Card weaving (commonly known as tablet weaving) is a way to create patterned woven bands that are thick, sturdy and beautiful. While cards are a simple tool, the weavings they produce are infinite in design and complexity.  The portability of these cards gives you access to the intricacies of a four harness loom from the comfort of your pocket.

There is evidence of card weaving being used as early as 800 BC. The cards, or tablets, keep the warp threads in order and create the shed for weaving. The cards are then turned to raise and lower the warp threads. The colors of the warp threads in the 4 card holes, combined with how the cards are turned, create stunning patterns. 

Weaving cards can be used with a simple homemade tensioning device but are best utilized on a loom.  The Inkle Loom is the ideal companion, but they are also great tools for rigid heddle looms, table looms and floor looms.

The Schacht weaving cards fit comfortably in the hand at 3.5 inch squares. Colored edges on each side are a helpful aid for keeping track of the card's positioning. Built for duability with the intention of performing well for many warps to come.
