How to Choose the Right Reed
Select the Correct Weaving Width:
- Measure the inside of your loom’s beater to ensure the best fit.
- These reeds are measured by weaving width, meaning the width listed corresponds to the space between the inside edges of your beater. They are approximately 4.75" tall. If you need a different size, contact us to check availability.
Pick the Ideal Dent Size (DPI):
- 5–10 DPI: Best for bulky & worsted-weight yarns (open, textured fabrics).
- 10–15 DPI: Ideal for DK & sport-weight yarns (balanced weaves).
- 16+ DPI: Perfect for fine lace & fingering yarns (intricate designs).
Caring for Your Reed
- Storage: Keep long reeds horizontal to prevent bending.
- Cleaning: Wipe new reeds with mineral spirits or isopropyl alcohol to remove factory oils.
- Rust Prevention: If discoloration occurs, use WD-40 and a nylon scratch pad for maintenance.
- Edge Protection: Reinforce with heavy-duty tape if the original covering wears off.
With proper care, your Glimakra Stainless Steel Reed will remain an essential tool for precise, high-quality weaving for years to come.
