Build better cloth from the very first pick. Lojan Stainless Steel Reeds give your warp consistent spacing and a smooth, reliable beat—without the rust risk of carbon-steel reeds. Designed by Jan Louët Feisser and Loes van Aken for the Lojan Flex shaft looms, these reeds pair precision denting with durable stainless construction so you can weave faster, cleaner, and with fewer broken ends.
What you’ll notice at the loom
- Stainless steel dents & frame (1Cr17 dents / 1Cr13 beams): Naturally corrosion-resistant and long-wearing, even in humid studios—no flaking, pitting, or staining that can abrade delicate warps.
- Deburred, uniform dent edges: Gentle on yarns to reduce fuzzing and end breakage for smoother sheds and fewer stops.
- Wide density range—20/10 to 100/10 (dents per 10 cm) ≈ 5–25.4 DPI: One lineup covers coarse rugs to fine scarves; match the reed to your yarn and target EPI with confidence.
- Two weaving widths—12″ (30 cm) and 20″ (50 cm): Sized for Lojan Flex shaft looms and common project widths for compact storage and easy handling.
- Precision-straight, stable beat: Consistent cloth density and fewer reed marks; easier to hold selvedges and pattern integrity.
- Easy care: Wipe lint, done. If needed, a light clean restores a like-new glide—no heavy maintenance routine.
- Sustainable, long-life tool: Buy once, weave for years; stainless construction means fewer replacements and less waste.
Details that set these reeds apart
- True stainless throughout (not painted or plated) for real rust resistance.
- Dent accuracy you can feel—uniform slot spacing yields predictable EPI.
- Clear 20/10–100/10 markings; available in 12″ & 20″ widths at ≈4.75" overall height (outer cap to outer cap).
- Engineered for Lojan Flex shaft looms; fits other beaters when width/height match.
- Designed by the Louët lineage—modern function, heirloom durability.
Quick answers
Which dent size should I choose?
Match dent size to your ends per inch (EPI) target. Quick start: Fingering/8/2 cotton ≈ 12 EPI → 50/10 (~12.5 DPI); Sport/DK ≈ 10 EPI → 40/10 (10 DPI); Worsted ≈ 8–10 EPI → 30/10–40/10 (7.5–10 DPI). You can place 2+ ends per dent to reach higher EPI (e.g., 2/dent in a 10 DPI reed ≈ 20 EPI).
Are these compatible with non-Lojan looms?
Often yes. Reeds are broadly interchangeable if weaving width and overall height match your beater. Measure the inside width between shafts and confirm your beater’s reed height before ordering.
What’s the difference between DPI, DPC, and EPI?
DPI (dents per inch) and DPC/10 cm are reed densities; EPI is how many warp ends you actually sley. EPI can exceed DPI when you place multiple ends per dent.
Will stainless steel affect weight or balance?
Stainless adds stability without bulk. The balanced frame gives a clean, straight beat and resists flexing during firm weft packing.
How do I care for a stainless reed?
Wipe away lint and dust regularly. If a film builds up, clean with a soft cloth slightly dampened with mild soap; dry thoroughly. Store flat or upright where dents won’t be crushed.
What comes in the package?
One stainless steel reed in your chosen width and dent count, clearly labeled and ready to drop into your beater.
What dent count ships on Lojan Flex shaft looms by default?
Lojan Flex looms ship with a 40/10 (≈10 DPI) reed; additional dent counts are available here for specialty setts.
