Our Favorite Free Projects to Feed Your Weaving Appetite

We love all our crafters equally, but today we’re going to focus on our weaving community by highlighting a few weaving projects we’ve come across recently. On a scale from Fun to Functional, you won't be disappointed!

While we offer a great selection of Jagger Spun weaving cones, in this article we’re going to focus on Brown Sheep’s popular weaving yarn lines; Cotton Fleece, Nature Spun and Lamb’s Pride in particular.

The projects we’ve detailed below are all 100% FREE patterns, and make for a great way to spend some quality time with your loom this Winter! We’ve included a range of project across all skill levels, so without further delay, let's weave our way down to some fun suggestions! ; )

Woven Dish Towels

This dish towel is a modern twist on a classic design. If you have a Schacht Cricket Loom, you can weave them yourself! If you are in the market for a Cricket Loom, we can help you HERE!

These dish towels work up wonderfully well in Cotton Fleece, which offers a wide range of colors to mix and match the base with the accent stripes.

Dog Leash

Your doggo has his own unique personality and as your best friend, he deserves his own unique leash! This woven dog leash offers a fun project for playing with colors on your loom…and we promise no matter the outcome, your dog will still love you.

The leash is woven on an Inkle Loom, and the instructions include patterns for the paws, checkerboard design, and the full alphabet.  Add your pup’s name to the leash or personalize it for a special gift.

Mug Rugs

Mug Rugs are so much fun to make and best of all they’re quick projects, so you can reap the rewards of your work right away! They’re also fantastic stash and scrap busters.

The above mug rug is used making whatever yarn you have on hand, but Lamb’s Pride or Nature Spun is particularly suitable for these projects.  It’s a perfect practice project for beginner weavers and makes for another great gift idea!

Woven Notebook Covers

No more expensive book covers or tattered covers made of old brown paper bags this school season. These woven notebook covers are great stash busters and are perfect for kids’ classroom books or your own at-home novels.

Use up leftover Lamb’s Pride and Cotton Fleece and have fun with creating stripes in your notebook cover. Each notebook cover will be completely unique to you and usable for years to come.

Table Runners

Table runners are a project favorite among weavers mainly due the their functionality and the wide array of patterns you can create and customize when incorporating a runner into your home décor. Handwoven Magazine has a 4 pattern series of table runners you can try for free!

All 4 table runner patterns work up beautifully using Cotton Fleece or Cotton Fine yarns on a rigid heddle or shaft loom. Bonus suggestion…if you make your runner thin, it could (possibly) double as a stylish scarf!
